Justice, Justice You Shall Pursue...
— Deuteronomy 16:20

THE TENETS OF TEMPLE HABONIM'S SOCIAL ACTION COMMITTEE are rooted in the primary principle of our faith, Tikkun Olam, repairing or healing the world through mitzvot, tzedakah and gemilut hasidim.

WE DO THIS BY WORKING ON ONGOING PROJECTS such as food drives, participating in local community programs such as the Day of Caring, and working in collaboration with Dorcas International to help relocate refugee and migrant families.

WE ALSO INFORM AND EDUCATE our congregants about important issues which affect us as Jews and as citizens of the world. We help our youth see the impact of their involvement with Social Action through Brit Mitzvah individual and class projects, and programs involving the entire religious school community.

WE ALSO ENGAGE IN DIRECT POLITICAL ACTION on issues that affect our community, including voter registration, combating antisemitism, gun control, criminal justice reform, immigration, reproductive health, anti-poverty legislation, and educational policy.

The social action committee also helps coordinate other Temple activities concerning Social Action and Social Justice. Social Action activities plan and carry out the mitzvot and charitable deeds that help and assist those in need in our community. Social Justice activities address issues related to the root causes of inequality by trying to change the political environment that fosters disadvantages within our community.
