TEMPLE HABONIM YOUTH COMMITTEE - Leatal Laby

Slideshow of Trip to NYC

On Sunday December 4th, the senior Youth Group hosted a bake sale for the Hebrew school similar to the one we hosted last December. The Youth Group hosted this bake sale in order to raise money for our adopted family for the holidays. The Youth Group raised around $300 with our very successful bake sale.

Each style of dessert was baked and brought in by our members, which allowed us to have such great success.

The following Saturday, December 10th, we traveled to Target to purchase our gifts. By splitting up into boys and girls, the Youth Group was able to not only purchase a plethora of gifts for the children but had set aside money to purchase a gift for the mother as well. At the end of the trip, while wrapping the gifts, the youth group members shared their feelings of fulfillment and how they enjoyed the mitzvah they have just preformed. We hope the family enjoyed their gifts and that our entire community had a safe and happy Hanukah filled with only the brightest lights.

THB Youth Take an Interfaith Service Trip to Arizona

This coming April, 8 Temple Habonim students, along with 16 students from the Barrington Congregational Church, will go to Tucson, Arizona, as the culmination experience of a half year of study about the current immigration situation in the United States. They will spend time in Arizona doing service in the community there and seeing first-hand what life is like in one of our border states.

The group will be lead by Reverend Larsen, Rabbi Klein, Linda Silverman-Levine, and 4 more adult chaperones - 2 from each house of worship: Neil Greenspan, Charlie McCoy, Laurie Snady-McCoy, and Mike Pomerantz.

In the tradition of the mission trips that the church has taken for years, it is our hope that the entire congregation will be involved in helping raise funds for this trip so that each child who is going can pay a reduced rate. Toward that end, BCC and THB will be holding several fund raisers throughout the year so that everyone has an opportunity to help our youth make this trip possible.

Some fundraisers will be held at the Church, and some will be held at the synagogue. Please do all you can to help make the fundraisers in both locations a success. Also, please know that you can make donations unrelated to the fundraisers if you want to help make this trip possible. (You can make out checks to Temple Habonim and direct them to Rabbi Klein.)

Students raised funds for their trip by assisting at THB’s “Men Who Cook Event”. Two additional fundraisers are planned for November: a Spaghetti Dinner held in the Fellowship Hall at the White Church from 5:00 to 7:00PM on Sunday, November 6th and a Thanksgiving Pie Sale.
