Holiday Celebrations

Sun Feb 8 – 10:45AM – 12:00PM THB’s GREEN Tu B’Shevat Seder
Tu B’Shevat is a minor Jewish holiday, which marks the New Year of the Trees and this year falls on Monday, Feb 9th. In ancient days the Israelites needed to know the age of a tree for tithing purposes. During In the 1600s, the kabbalist Rabbi Yitzchak Luria of Safed and his
disciples instituted a Tu B’Shevat Seder in which the fruits and trees of the Land of Israel were given symbolic meaning.

Today the kabbalistic Tu B’Shevat seder is celebrated by many Jews around the world, religious and secular, both in Israel and the Diaspora. Customs associated with this holiday include planting trees and eating dried fruits and nuts, especially figs, dates, raisins, carob, and almonds.

We will celebrate Tu B’Shevat on Sunday, February 8th from 10:45AM to 12:00PM. Everyone – not just Religious School students and their families – is invited to join us for Temple Habonim’s
first ever GREEN Tu B’Shevat Seder, led by Rabbi Klein and Linda Silverman Levine. Why is this seder different from all other seders? At all other seders, we create waste. At this seder we will use all earth-friendly materials: a true birthday for the trees. ADULTS - please let us know if you will be coming so we can set enough places.
