THE GIFT OF LIFE

A General Way to Help:

There is a shortage of Eastern European Jewish bone marrow donors. Being a donor simply involves an oral swab. You can go to the Gift of Life web site and find a list of drives around the country, or you can arrange to get tested on line, by asking for a kit to be mailed to you. Do so through Gift of Life, a U.S. based Jewish registry.   To register with them, go to: giftoflife.org. Click on Register Now as a Donor

A Specific Way to Help:

(This request comes from Marcia Rouslin, who recently attended one of our Shabbat Services.) Recently my daughter-in-law's cousin, Alan Cohen, 49 years old with two young children, was diagnosed with Acute Agressive Leukemia. I am asking the members of Temple Habonim as well as friends and family to please become a bone marrow donor. Go to: giftoflife.org. Click on Register Now as a Donor and use the code SAVEALAN when prompted so there will be no cost to you. Instructions for collecting the sample and mailing it back will be included with the kit. They will contact you now or in the future if you are a match for anyone needing a transplant--whose life you could potentially save. You must be between the ages of 18 and 60. If you can't or don't want to be a marrow donor, you might consider financial support of either the US-based Gift of Life or the world's largest Jewish marrow donor registry, Ezer Mizion, in Israel. To donate on line, go to www.ezermizion.org and click on the Alan Cohen link or simply send a check made out to Ezer Mizion to the firm where Alan works:   York Capital, 767 Fifth Ave., New York, NY 10153, Attn: Daniel Dauber.

Thank you for your consideration. For more information, please contact Marcia Rouslin at 401-245-1042 or 401-742-4836

XEROX IS DOING SOMETHING COOL

If you go to this web site, www.LetsSayThanks.com, you can pick out a thank you card, Xerox will print it, and it will be sent to a soldier that is currently serving in Iraq. You can't pick out who gets it, but it will go to a member of the armed services. It is FREE and it only takes a minute.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if the soldiers received a bunch of these?   Whether you are for or against the war, our soldiers over there need to know we are behind them. This is a wonderful way to express our appreciation for their sacrifice. We can never say thank you enough to our military volunteers.
